Langel's lab / Drug Delivery Group
Research:
The group was formed in 2007 by Prof ÜLO LANGEL, and is dedicated to developing drug delivery strategies. The group focuses in special peptides that can be used for this purpose – the CELL-PENETRATING PEPTIDES (CPP).
The main focus is on intracellular delivery of nucleic acid based biomolecules (siRNA, plasmid DNA, SCO etc). Using our peptides as a method for nucleic acid delivery, we provide a toolbox for versatile genetic manipulation of mammalian cells. This is useful for wide range of applications in Biotechnology and has a future impact in Gene Therapy.
The group has extensive experience with peptide and polymer chemistry for the development and synthesis of drug carrier systems. Our drug delivery systems are comprehensively assessed in mammalian cell culture models. Finally, the drug delivery efficacy is validated using various in vivo models, based on laboratory mice.
