Denis Kainov - "Towards better diagnostics and tratement of severe influenza infections"
According to the World Health Organization, influenza is one of the most lethal infectious Diseases. Every year about 10 – 20 % of World population is infected by the virus. Thousands of people require hospitalization and lethality of the severe cases is high. It is estimated that every year 500 000 people die from influenza and complications of the infection. The virus is constantly evolving and the resulting antigenic shift and drift make management of the infection with current vaccines and drugs complicated. The aim of our research is to develop better tools for diagnostics and treatment of influenza infections.
